Campbell And Meisenheimer Honored By Conference CoachesWestminster College sophomores Morgan Campbell and Brooke Meisenheimer have earned honorable mention all-conference honors by a vote of the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference softball coaches.
Campbell, a sophomore center fielder from Fulton, Missouri (South Callaway High School), led the team in hitting percentage (.304), at-bats (92), runs scored (18), hits (28), home runs (4), RBI (16) and walks (9), while compiling a .955 fielding percentage. Meisenheimer, a sophomore second baseman from Pilot Grove, Missouri (Pilot Grove High School), was second on the team with a .274 batting average, and led the team with eight doubles, while compiling a .985 fielding percentage.
The Blue Jays finished the 2008 season with a 5-27 overall record and placed seventh in the conference standings at 3-11.
Blue Jays Drop Pair Of Games On Final Day Of 2008 Season
The Westminster College Blue Jay softball squad dropped two games to Greenville College Wednesday in Fulton to close out the 2008 season.
Westminster (5-27, 3-11 St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) dropped the day’s opener 5-2. Morgan Campbell went 2-for-4 at the plate and scored a run. Brooke Meisenheimer went 2-for-3 with two RBI, and senior Katie Pilgram went 1-for-4 and scored a run on her final day in a Westminster uniform. Pilgram (pictured at left) took the pitching loss, allowing five runs on eight hits and a walk in her final career appearance on the mound.
The Blue Jays dropped the nightcap 4-3. Campbell went 1-for-3 with an RBI. Ashley Belfield and Emily Masso each drove in a run, and Pilgram went 1-for-4 with a run scored in her final career game. Belfield allowed four runs on nine hits and a walk, while striking out four batters from Greenville (14-14, 8-4 SLIAC).
Westminster Sweeps SLIAC Doubleheader On The Road
The Westminster College softball squad swept a St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader from MacMurray College Sunday in Jacksonville, Illinois.
The Blue Jays (5-25, 3-9 SLIAC) won the opening game 6-1. Katie Pilgram led the offense, recording two hits and driving in two runs. In winning the second game 3-1, Morgan Campbell hit a home run and Brooke Meisenheimer drove in a run with a double.
Westminster concludes the 2008 season at home Wednesday with a 5:00 p.m. conference doubleheader against Greenville College.
Meisenheimer Ties Season-High Mark In Twin Bill Setback
Brooke Meisenheimer tied an individual season-high mark with three hits in the second game of Thursday's softball doubleheader, but the Westminster College Blue Jays dropped both St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference games to Webster University in St. Louis.
Westminster (3-25, 1-9 SLIAC) took a brief 3-1 lead in an 8-3 opening-game loss. Morgan Campbell hit her team-high third home run of the season, a three-run shot in the third inning, to put the Blue Jays ahead 3-1. However, Webster regained the lead in the bottom of the third inning and went on to win the game.
Meisenheimer went 3-for-4 in the nightcap, and scored a run. This is the fourth three-hit performance for a Blue Jay this season. Emily Masso went 2-for-3 and Campbell went 2-for-4 in the 6-2 loss to Webster (16-10, 7-1 SLIAC).
Campbell Explodes Offensively, But Blue Jays Drop Pair
The Westminster Blue Jays fell to 3-23 overall and 1-7 in St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play, falling 3-2 and 8-4 to Blackburn College Tuesday in Carlinville, Illinois.
Morgan Campbell was the hitting star for Westminster, recording a home run and driving in two runs in the opener. In the second game, Campbell recorded two singles, a double, a home run and drove in three runs. Ashlee Wheeler drove in Westminster's other run.
Westminster Drops Non-Conference Pair To #15 Ranked Bears
The Blue Jay softball squad (3-21) played at No. 15 nationally-ranked Washington University (22-7) Wednesday, and dropped a pair of non-conference games, 5-0 and 13-0.
Ashlee Wheeler and Casey Fisher recorded the only hits for Westminster in the 5-0 opening game loss. The Blue Jays were hitless in the nightcap, while Washington U., which finished second in last year’s NCAA Division III national tournament, tallied 13 runs on nine hits off three Blue Jay pitchers in the nightcap.
Blue Jays Top Eureka To Pick Up First Conference Victory
Westminster College picked up its first St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference softball victory, splitting a league doubleheader with Eureka College Saturday in Fulton.
The Blue Jays (3-19, 1-5 SLIAC) managed just four hits in dropping Saturday’s first game 3-0, but Morgan Campbell went 2-for-4 with two runs scored, and Brooke Meisenheimer went 2-for-3 with two RBI as Westminster captured the second game 3-1. Katie Pilgram (2-5) picked up the win on the mound, limiting Eureka to one run on five hits and one walk, while striking out four batters.
Westminster Snaps Streak With A Pair Of Home Wins
The streak is over for the Westminster College softball squad. The Blue Jays (2-16) snapped a 16-game losing streak with a non-conference doubleheader sweep of Stephens College Wednesday in Fulton. Westminster won 9-0 and 11-1.
Brooke Meisenheimer recorded three hits and scored two runs, and Shayla Gambon finished with two hits and a run in a 9-0 opening-game win. Katie Pilgram took the win on the mound, allowing just one hit and striking out four batters. Emily Crohare tallied three hits and two runs, and Morgan Campbell and Ashlee Wheeler each recorded a pair of hits and a pair of runs as the Blue Jays won the nightcap 11-1. Ashley Belfield struck out six and allowed one run on one hit to earn the victory.
Blue Jay Bats Silent In Non-Conference Losses In Iowa
Westminster managed just five hits in dropping both ends of a non-conference softball doubleheader to Central College Tuesday in Pella, Iowa.
The Blue Jays (0-16) recorded four hits in a 9-1 opening-game loss. Ashlee Wheeler singled in the fifth inning and scored on an RBI single by Ashley Belfield with Westminster's lone run. Morgan Campbell led off the nightcap with a double, but that was the only Blue Jay hit in a 12-0 loss.
Westminster Opens Conference with Two Road Losses
The Blue Jays dropped two games to Fontbonne University Tuesday in St. Louis to open St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play.
After falling in the opener 6-0, Westminster lost the nightcap 9-2. Ashley Wheeler led the offense in game two, recording two hits. Morgan Campbell and Emily Crohare each scored a run for the Blue Jays (0-14, 0-2 SLIAC).
Westminster Comes Up Short In Non-Conference Action
The Westminster College softball squad (0-12) came up short twice, falling 11-0 and 6-1 to Maryville University Friday in non-conference softball action in St. Louis.
Casey Fisher and Emily Masso recorded hits in the first game, while Ashley Belfield took the loss on the mound, allowing 11 runs and five earned runs on 11 hits over four innings. Shayla Gambon went 2-for-3 in the nightcap, with Fisher, Morgan Campbell and Brooke Meisenheimer each recording a hit. Katie Pilgram took the loss, giving up six runs and four earned runs on nine hits over six innings.
Blue Jays Conclude Spring Trip With a Pair Of Losses
Westminster dropped two games to conclude play in the University of Dallas Classic Sunday in Dallas, Texas.
The Blue Jays (0-8) fell to Robert Morris-Springfield 3-1, with Morgan Campbell scoring the lone run on an infield groundout in the fifth inning after reaching on an error. Ashley Belfield took the loss, allowing three runs and two earned runs on eight hits.
Westminster dropped the final game Sunday to Nebraska Wesleyan, 8-0. Katie Pilgram recorded the lone hit and Kim Dobberstein took the loss on the mound, giving up eight runs and five earned on 12 hits.
Thursday Games Called Off Due To Cool Temperatures
Both the Westminster College baseball and softball games, scheduled for Thursday in Fulton, have been called off because of the threat of cool temperatures.
The baseball games with Washington University have been rescheduled for Wednesday, April 16, at 3:00 p.m., and the softball games with Central Methodist University have not been rescheduled at this time. A decision on the women's home tennis match with Stephens College will be made later.
Westminster Baseball And Softball Schedules Adjusted
The Westminster College baseball and softball schedules for this weekend have changed because of field conditions. The Blue Jay baseball squad was originally scheduled to play on the road, but now the Blue Jays open their season with a home doubleheader against Robert Morris-Springfield Saturday, and then host Earlham College Sunday. The Westminster softball home opener against William Woods University on Sunday has been moved to William Woods.

Baseball and Softball Teams Both Sixth In SLIAC Polls
Westminster College is picked sixth in both the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference preseason baseball and softball polls, which are voted on by the conference coaches.
The Blue Jay baseball squad finished the 2007 season 15-21 overall and sixth in the league standings at 9-9. Webster University is the defending SLIAC league and tournament champion.
Westminster concluded the 2007 softball season with a 9-29 overall mark and placed seventh in the league at 4-10. Webster is the defending league and tournament champion.
