 Westminster Hall 222
Department(s): English

Biography:

Heidi LaVine joined the Westminster community in 2009, and in her capacity as Assistant Professor of English, regularly teaches both introductory literature and writing courses, as well as upper-level electives in postcolonial literature and theory and contemporary British literature.

Professor LaVine completed her doctorate at the University of Iowa, where she began looking for ways to combine her love of travel with her study of Anglophone and Francophone Caribbean literature. To that end, she has mined archives in Texas, Jamaica, and France, has spent a year researching and teaching at a French university, and has presented at international conferences in Curaçao, Canada and Puerto Rico. Professor LaVine looks forward to further international work, and to leading future study abroad trips.

Professor LaVine is also delighted to serve as the director of Westminster's new Honors Program, which offers students opportunities to apply advanced theories about global issues to experiences outside the classroom, and seeks to prepare them for graduate school or other distinguished post-Westminster opportunities (through advanced seminars, off-campus experiences and completion of an Honors thesis project). In collaboration with the students, she looks forward to cultivating and expanding the program in the coming years.
