Architect:
Gould Evans Architects, with Dennis Strait as lead architect. More about the firm is available at
http://www.gouldevans.com/
Contractor:
Reinhardt/Wilson, St. Louis
Reinhardt/Wilson is the same company that constructed the Coulter Science Building. President, Scott Wilson '74, is an alumnus of Westminster.
Occupancy: 70 new beds in 9 new suites. Each suite is comprised of four double bedrooms and a bathroom. Two bedrooms have been designated as singles for Resident Assistants.
Location: The north end of the Quad, on the site formerly occupied by Robertson Dining Hall.
Need:
The Quad, currently comprised of Scott, Gage, Rice, and Marquess Halls, is traditionally home to Westminster's freshman class. Due to recent increases in enrollment, the Quad can no longer facilitate the entire freshman class and some freshmen have been placed in otherwise upperclass residence halls. Because the Quad is a quintessential part of the Westminster freshman experience, the new hall is being added to allow a freshman class of 270 students to reside in the Quad together.
Common Area:
A feature of the new hall is the commons area located at the center of the building. Designed to serve all students living in the Quad, the commons area will feature a fireplace, plenty of soft seating, a large deck and balcony, a public kitchen, and a small study room. The space will be used for student programs and as "hang out" space for freshmen.
Schedule: The new residence hall is being constructed on the site of Robertson Dining Hall, which was razed last summer. The new hall will open in Fall of 2008 for the Class of 2012.
