Westminster Rallies For First Victory Of Season

Clarksville, Ark. – Westminster College rallied from an early 10-1 deficit and picked up its first baseball win of the season with a 13-10 victory over Simpson College of Iowa Sunday on the final day of play at the Ozarks Classic.
The Blue Jays (1-2) scored six runs in the fifth inning and five runs in the sixth inning to jump in front to stay in getting the first collegiate victory for first-year head coach Dennis Hughes.
Sophomore Andy Pichler (St. Louis, Mo./Oakville) recorded three hits and scored three runs, junior Danton Hughes (Jefferson City, Mo./Helias) added three hits and three RBI, and freshman Justin Whitaker (Kossuth, Miss./Kossuth) finished with three hits. Junior Matt Mallette (St. Louis, Mo./St. Mary’s) and senior Nick Genetti (St. Louis, Mo./St. Mary’s) each drove in three runs to help make a winner of junior Tyler Ten Eyck (DeWitt, Mich./DeWitt) who got the win for pitching one inning of shutout relief. Freshman Tommy Bohnert (St. Louis, Mo./Oakville) threw three shutout innings to get the save against Simpson (0-3).
