The Office of Residential and Greek Life at Westminster College strives to foster community and the total development of students by facilitating life lessons, connecting curricular and co-curricular learning and supporting the pursuit of academic scholarship. Our aim is the success of students centered on the institutional values of integrity, fairness, respect and responsibility.
Westminster College manages and maintains nine residence halls as well as a limited number of residential homes for student occupancy. In addition, the six national fraternities for men operate their own independent living units. The goal of the residential facilities is to provide safe, comfortable living environments that promote academic, personal, and social growth opportunities.
A significant part of a student's education at Westminster College takes place in the living groups. Consequently, Westminster College requires all admitted degree seeking students to live in one of the college-approved residence halls or college owned houses. Exceptions to this policy are generally granted to those who:
live at home with their parents;
are 22 years or older as of the first day of classes of the semester;
have completed 90 semester credit hours prior to the first day of classes of the semester;
are married;
are initiated members of one of the recognized Westminster national fraternities located on College property and plan to live in the fraternity house.
All students residing in College housing must participate in one of the approved meal plans. All students who live in College owned housing will be placed on the 19-meal plan, unless they request the 15 or 10-meal plan. Commuter students are encouraged to participate in the Declining Points Meal program.
New students are generally assigned to Gage, Marquess, Rice, Scott and Sloss Halls, which comprise the Churchill Quadrangle. Within each Quadrangle building are eight suites with four two-person rooms and a bathroom in each suite (with exception of Sloss Hall, which consists of 9 suites). Every residence hall room contains two beds, desks, bureaus and closets. Residents are provided with their own student identification card with an assigned proxy number, which allows access to the suite through a proxy locking system. Individual keys are issued to the resident to their room. Westminster upperclass students live either in one of the four upperclass residence halls or national fraternity houses.
Two Resident Advisors, who are Westminster undergraduate students, staff each residence hall. Resident Advisors are primarily responsible for maintaining an atmosphere in the residence halls that is conducive to study, relaxation and sleep. They are responsible, moreover, for enforcing the College's rules and regulations in the residence halls, and are trained to be of assistance to their residents for all kinds of questions and concerns brought to their attention. The Resident Advisors work with the Student Government Association Senators and the residents to make residential life a positive learning experience. The Director of Residential and Greek Life supervises Resident Advisors. If you would like some information on the
