Westminster College offers some amazing majors in disciplines from Biology to Global & Transnational Studies.  Some students know exactly what they want to study and want to a focus on a major that can train them for their dream job.  Other students either have not fully decided what they want to do after college or have so many interests that they do not want to be limited to just one field of study.  If you are one of these students, a General Studies Major is perfect for you.  It affords you the opportunity to study multiple disciplines and cultivate your many interests.  Moreover, you are acquiring essential skills that you can apply to many different jobs. 

The General Studies Major certainly provides a more flexible course of study than our more traditional majors.  You will be able to choose from a large array of classes.  Although being able to take the classes you want is the heart of the General Studies major, we also believe that your educational path needs some focus and direction. That is why students majoring in General Studies are required to have at least one minor (although more are possible) and are prohibited from taking more than twenty-seven hours in one discipline. This allows you a more balanced path that combines flexibility with focus. 

You bet!!  All Westminster students work with one of our amazing professional advisors until they declare their major.  When you declare your major in General Studies you get to work with a designated General Studies advisor that can help you chart your flexible path to degree completion.  This advisor will help you select classes, find exciting internships opportunities, and plan for your career!
